Course overview

This 2-day course is run by the Healthy Working Lives Group and is designed to meet the syllabus requirements for a Faculty of Occupational Medicine approved training for occupational health professionals. The course provides training in the requirements for health surveillance for a workforce exposed to hand-transmitted vibration, and in the diagnosis and management of an individual with HAVS.

Required knowledge

A general understanding of occupational health is required. The course would be best suited to those practicing as occupational health nurses or physicians.
For those with no specific knowledge of HAVS, you should also ideally sit in with colleagues within your organisation who do HAVS surveillance prior to the course.

Teaching

The course will be delivered using a combination of formal presentations and practical sessions. The course is provided over two days.

Assessment

A formal assessment will occur. Clinicians (doctors and nurses) successfully completing the formal assessment at the end of the course will be entitled to apply for a Certificate of Competence accredited by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (nb non-clinicians will not be eligible for a Faculty Certificate).

Attendance

Attendance at all sessions is required.

Accreditation

This course is approved by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians.

It has received Faculty CPD approval worth 12.5 CPD points for full attendance.
