Course overview
This course is designed to inform and refresh appointed doctors on current legislation and best practice relating to asbestos.
It also provides a valuable supplement to the knowledge and skills of Occupational Health and Safety practitioners, including those in training, who have an interest in the health standards for individuals who work with or may be exposed to asbestos.
The course is delivered by the Healthy Working Lives Group, University of Glasgow, and taught by expert speakers from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) alongside clinicians with specialist experience in this field.
Aims
- To raise competence in asbestos-related issues by refreshing and updating appointed doctors on legislation and best practice
- To offer high-quality, evidence-informed training to the wider Occupational Health practitioner community
Learning objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand current legislative requirements relating to asbestos
- Apply updated clinical knowledge in the detection and management of asbestos-related disease
- Respond appropriately and effectively in the event of unplanned asbestos exposure
Accreditation
This course has received Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM) CPD approval, worth 6 CPD points for full attendance.
